Sergio Gardea operated a tax return preparation business for years in Akron, Ohio. He was investigated by the Criminal Investigation Division of the IRS. Ultimately Mr. Gardea was indicted on 30 counts of willfully filing false tax returns for clients.
Mr. Gardea maintained that he was innocent and demanded a trial. A two week criminal trial took place in Akron, Ohio before the Honorable John Adams. After the Government rested its case it dropped 9 of the counts. On Thursday, May 10, 2018, the jury returned its verdicts on the remaining 21 counts.
